These car door tours have arguably become one of the most popular attractions for tourists visiting Lighting Ridge and are not to be missed! There’re five self-drive tours to choose from and each tour is colour coded (green, blue, yellow, red and orange) from wrecked vehicles, erected roadside and painted with numbers corresponding to sights on a pamphlet. You can pick up the pamphlet locally at the Opal Holiday Park or at the Lightning Ridge and Walgett Visitor information Centres.

• Yellow Car Door Explorer Tour with site including Chambers of the Black Hand
• Blue Car Door Explorer Tour with sites including The Opal Mine Adventure
• Red Car Door Explorer Tour with sites including Amigo's Castle
• Orange Car Door Tour with sites including the Club in the Scrub

These tours are completely self-paced, though if you’re going to do them all, it’s suggested you give yourself around two full days. The orange trip is the longest of the five. For this one, allow about a day. It takes you in to explore the opal fields with a few pub stops along the way.
