Alice Springs Heritage Precinct

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The heritage precinct contains many of the town's noted heritage buildings including the former Alice Springs Gaol, Stuart Park, and a number of buildings constructed between 1938-1944.

Interpretive Shelter for the Heritage Precinct, located in western end of Stuart Park, in front of RFDS Museum.
The construction of the buildings in the heritage precinct illustrates arid zone design principles, which is reflected in the enclosed verandahs of lightweight construction. These provided spaces for summer sleeping and summer evening living and heavy concrete block construction to core areas of the house provided a cool interior for summer day time living and for winter sleeping.
