Museum & Art Gallery

Day trips & tours

The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) is the cultural hub of Launceston and the leading destination for art, history and natural sciences in Northern Tasmania.  It is spread across 2 venues, both walking distance from CBD.

The Museum at Inveresk is home to natural sciences displays, transport and railway memorabilia, blacksmith workshops, and the iconic Launceston Planetarium. See dinosaurs, trains, animal species (including the Tasmanian thylacine), artefacts from Australia's oldest merchant shipwreck, and the Phenomena Factory; a free-entry interactive science centre providing hands-on education for kids of all ages.

The Art Gallery at Royal Park features temporary and permanent exhibitions which bring the histories, identities and stories of Northern Tasmania into a fresh and contemporary context.

Tram Museum features a workshop, a large modern display gallery and access to rail track running through the precinct. You can recapture Launceston's tramway past with a ride on our restored tram. Inside the museum, you can enjoy Launceston's oldest surviving movie footage and experience how the City changed with the introduction of the trams.
